Newly crowned WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis will defend his title against Danielito Zorrilla on June 17. It is the first fight for Prograis after signing a long-term deal with Matchroom Boxing.
Airing on DAZN, the fight is in the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
The 34-year-old Prograis turned pro in 2012. He beat Luis Eduardo Florez in 2016 to win the NABF super lightweight title, defending the belt twice. "Rougarou" won the interim WBC super lightweight title in 2018 against Julius Indongo. Competing in the World Boxing Super Series super lightweight tournament, he beat Terry Flanagan and Kiryl Relikh (winning WBA gold) but failed to beat Josh Taylor in the finals for the IBF title.
The southpaw has since gone 4-0, beating Jose Zepeda in his last fight in November for the WBC title.
Zorrilla turned pro in 2016. The 29-year-old is 2-1 in his last three fights. After losing to Arnold Barboza Jr in July 2022 to end his 16-fight win streak, he rebounded in March by beating Aristides Quintero via TKO.
Prograis was supposed to fight Liam Paro, but the latter backed out due to injury. Zorrilla is ready to make the most of the opportunity presented to him.
